Botulinum toxin treatment in Zurich

Youthful freshness through minimally invasive wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin, better known as Botox, is an integral part of aesthetic anti-wrinkle medicine and is one of the most frequently performed procedures worldwide. In just a few minutes, the skin can be visibly smoothed and refreshed – without any surgical intervention. As a muscle relaxant, botulinum toxin is primarily used to treat mimic wrinkles, such as frown lines (glabella), horizontal forehead wrinkles or the so-called crow’s feet, the laugh lines at the side of the eyes.

What is botulinum toxin and in which cases is it used?

Botulinum toxin is a protein that is obtained from certain types of bacteria (Clostridium botulinum) and has been specially prepared for wrinkle treatment. The correct name of the active ingredient is botulinum toxin type A.

Botox works by relaxing the fine mimic muscles and thus helps to smooth the skin. The treatment is minimally invasive and is often used for frown lines and laugh lines (eye wrinkles).
At Dr Omar in Zurich, we use botulinum toxin not only to treat expression lines, but also for excessive sweating in the armpit area.

What is Botox used for?

The most well-known application is probably the smoothing of expression lines. We achieve particularly good results with frown lines (glabella), horizontal forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet (laugh lines around the eyes). By specifically relaxing the facial muscles, we can minimise the appearance of these wrinkles or smooth out existing ones. But Botox can do much more.

Another very effective area of application is the treatment of hyperhidrosis, i.e. excessive sweating – particularly in the armpit area, on the hands or feet. Botulinum toxin can be used to regulate the overactive sweat glands, which significantly improves the quality of life of those affected.

Botox is also used successfully for migraine patients by injecting it into specific muscle areas to reduce tension and lower the frequency of migraine attacks. Botox is also used in the treatment of jaw grinding (bruxism), as it can relax the chewing muscles and thus alleviate the symptoms.

The versatility of Botox makes it an indispensable tool in modern aesthetic medicine – always with the aim of supporting individual beauty in a gentle way.

Questions & answers about Botox treatments

Many wrinkles are caused by excessive tension in the facial muscles, such as frown lines or forehead wrinkles. Botulinum toxin relaxes these muscles, smoothing out the wrinkles. The treatment provides a fresh and smooth appearance without affecting natural facial expressions. The effects appear gradually and last for about five to eight months.
Before the treatment, blood-thinning medications like aspirin (ASS) should be avoided to minimize the risk of bruising. After the treatment, slight swelling or redness may occur, which subsides after one to two days. Excessive rubbing or massaging of the treated areas should be avoided for about five days.
When applied correctly by qualified medical professionals, the risk of long-term damage is extremely low. The well-known "frozen faces" in the past resulted from excessively high doses. Nowadays, precise and moderate treatments lead to natural and soft results without affecting facial expressions.
The effect of Botulinum toxin begins about 48 hours after the injection. The maximum effect is reached after two to three weeks. The results generally last for five to eight months. When combined with other aesthetic treatments, such as hyaluronic fillers or ultrasound treatments, the effect can be extended.
The treatment can be repeated every five to eight months. Since the facial muscles are relaxed from the previous treatment, a lower dosage is often needed during follow-up appointments, making the results appear even more natural.
