Face Slimming / Masseter Botox
Face Slimming / Masseter Botox
The involuntary grinding of teeth (bruxism) is caused by repetitive activity of the jaw muscle, the masseter muscle, and is characterized by teeth grinding, clenching, and tension and displacement of the lower jaw. Bruxism can occur during the day (awake bruxism) as well as at night during sleep (sleep bruxism), and it can be very distressing for those affected. As a result, teeth can be irreversibly damaged, the function of the temporomandibular joint can be impaired, and muscle tension can occur, radiating pain to the shoulders and neck.
To prevent the intensification of symptoms and alleviate associated issues, an injection therapy with botulinum toxin can be beneficial. In this procedure, botulinum toxin is injected into the jaw muscle in a way that reduces the activity and strength of the muscle, thus alleviating the symptoms while preserving normal functions such as chewing and speaking.
Even in the absence of teeth grinding, some individuals may naturally have a well-developed jaw muscle, which can give the face a wide or square appearance, resulting in a masculine and angular look. By injecting botulinum toxin into the enlarged jaw muscle, it can be reduced in size, leading to an improvement in facial shape and slimming of the lower face, without affecting any chewing function.
